Parenting in the Digital Age

Are you wondering how you can support your child to navigate the challenges of the digital world?

If you've watched Netflix's drama Adolescence or Channel 4's documentary Swiped: The School That Banned Smartphones, you may be worried. We're here to help you to support your children in using digital platforms as safely as possible.

Join us on Thursday 15 May for one of two free sessions helping you to parent in the digital age, sharing advice and guidance before we open the floor for you to ask questions to our panel of experts, including:

  • Child online safety specialist Anna Sarjantson from Screen-Safe

  • Consultant Clinical Psychologist Dr Susan Yorke, who specialises in children, adolescents and young adults

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse Mrs Picton, who is the Welfare Nurse at Hymers College

  • Hymers College's safeguarding leads

Parents of Pre-School to Year 6 Children: 4pm - 5:30pm

  • Understanding what children are seeing and doing online today

  • Parental controls and screentime

  • Social media, in particular WhatsApp, TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram and YouTube - how these platforms work, the risks and how can you make them safer

  • Gaming, from Roblox to inappropriate games being accessed by children

  • Cyberbullying

  • Supporting healthy digital habits at home

  • Conversations to be starting at home

Parents of Year 7 - Year 13 Children: 6pm - 7:30pm

As your child's independence grows, so do the challenges of navigating the online world. This session will include topics such as:

  • Understanding what children and teens are seeing and doing online today

  • Social media, in particular WhatsApp, TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram and YouTube - how these platforms work, the risks and how can you make them safer
