Our Science Triathlon is designed to promote STEM and learning beyond the science curriculum - reserve your school’s place today!
We invite schools to enter a team of four Year 10 students to complete a series of science practicals followed by knowledge-based questions.
“The Science Triathlon has furthered our pupils’ love of science, giving them a goal to aim towards and opening their eyes to possibilities in their future that they probably wouldn’t have imagined beforehand. It’s great for them to have this experience at Hymers College. When you’re teaching day to day, you don’t have the opportunity to do things like this. To be able to really stretch and challenge our pupils is fantastic.” Steven Williams, Director of STEM at Sirius Academy North and teacher of one of last year’s teams.
“The competition added a new aspect to our pupils’ learning. It’s allowed them to experience something new and to do some wackier experiments.” Luke Fuller, a Science Teacher at Holderness Academy who accompanied a team last year.
Following the Science Triathlon all students will receive an invitation to return to Hymers with their parents, to attend the Science Triathlon Celebration Ceremony on Tuesday 11 February at 7pm, where every student will receive a graded Certificate of Scientific Achievement and several awards will be presented to the winning teams and individuals.
Both events are entirely FREE, with lunch included on the day of the Science Triathlon, so what are you waiting for?
Check out the press coverage about last year’s competition here.
The teams will need to be accompanied by a staff member from your school on the day of the Science Triathlon. Please note this doesn't need to be a teacher and the staff member will not be supervising the pupils during the day. They will only be in attendance for safeguarding reasons. Hymers College staff will lead all activities and so your staff member will be free to bring their own work with them if they so wish.
